Moving at the Speed of Society

Social Media moves and changes at the speed of society! Information is power and education is the key to acquiring a workable understanding of how to put this power to work for your business. Below are eight growing trends in Social Media that we’ve identified and defined so that you can better understand and leverage this dynamic marketing tool.

#1 – Live Video

As smartphone usage continues to increase, more and more people are streaming live video through their social media accounts. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter all offer live feeds now; competing with the video-sharing giant, YouTube.

Live Video will be a growing trend to watch!

#2 – Chatbots

Chatbots are powered by logic (and often artificial intelligence) and allow the user to interact with them via chat interface. Perhaps the best know chatbots are those used by Facebook Messenger. The growing benefit of the chatbot to businesses is their ability to automate processes, retrieve and present data and improve the customer service experience. As more people look for quick, responsive customer service via mobile devices, chatbots will be an automated trend to watch.

#3 – Expiring Content

Expiring content was popularized by Snapchat. Once a post’s content has been viewed, it disappears. Although Snapchat now extends the life of content by 24 hours through stories (and Instagram has followed suit with their own Instagram Stories), expiring content is not just a fading star in the firmament of social media trends.

#4- Merging of Social Media Platforms

Microsoft recently bought LinkedIn, Facebook bought WhatsApp, Instagram and Oculus Rift, and Twitter bought Periscope. Keep an eye on acquisitions! There is a steady stream of new apps entering the market and acquisitions can quickly change the face of social media marketing.

#5- Challenges in Acquiring Organic Social Traffic

It’s no longer enough to update and post on a regular basis. Social Media algorithms are constantly changing and the trend towards paid ads is making it more challenging to grow your following organically.

#6- VR & AR

Pokemon Go was an Augmented Reality (AR) coup! Facebook’s Oculus Rift is growing in popularity as it makes Virtual Reality (VR) more and more accessible. Keep an eye on this trend…Facebook is developing lenses and masks to make Facebook Live a major player in the AR/VR environment.

#7- Personalized Content

Sidebar ads, Facebook re-targeting and Amazon ads are all examples of personalized content: content presented to the user based on where he or she has already visited on the Internet. Re-presenting content that the user has already shown an interest in possesses enormous potential for converting social media users into loyal customers.

#8- Social Influencers

More and more online consumers are using Adblockers as traditional advertising loses credibility among Millennials. The growing power of social media influencers for building credibility and converting followers to customers is a trend that marketers need to acknowledge. With so much content online, the personal credibility of social influencers is key to getting your message through the clutter.

Social Media continues to shape and define the future of marketing and customer service. Riding the trends is critical to moving your business forward rather than being left behind. Let Market Momentum bring our expertise to bear on your marketing and social media strategy. Call us today!
